But sacking Xavi will cost Barca. According to Fernando Polo of Mundo Deportivo, the net cost of axing Xavi and his staff now stands at €20m. That's because Xavi has a contract until 2025.
Barca would also have to spend around the same amount to hire a new coach considering his salary and that of his staff.
The only way to avoid spending so much on a new coach is to appoint Rafa Marquez. According to Fabrizio Romano, Marquez is Laporta's ideal candidate although Deco would rather bring in Porto's Sergio Conceicao.
A crunch meeting is planned between Xavi and Laporta where the coach will be told the decision to let him go.
As it stands, Xavi remains in the dark — Barca are yet to tell him anything, with rumours circulating about his future.
