Barca announce Chelsea-linked Lenglet signing
- Barca paid €35.9m for Lenglet
- The 23-year-old will sign a 5-year contract
- Chelsea have been monitoring the centre-back's situation, however, allegedly chose to go for Rugani instead
Barcelona have announced that they paid the €35.9m release clause of Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet. The French defender will sign a contract until 2023 with the release clause of €300m.
Lenglet had an offer from Sevilla to extend his contract and an offer from Barcelona to join the Catalan giants, as well as supposed offers from Chelsea and Manchester United. However, despite the news that both Premier Leauge heavyweights had been monitoring the centre-back's situation at Los Rojiblancos, they never seemed close to landing the 23-year-old.
Moreover, Lenglet's move to Barcelona might accelerate the Blues' pursuit of Juve's defender Daniele Rugani, with the deal being reportedly close to completion.
