- Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1.
- Matip gives credit to Arsenal's resilience at the back.
- The 28-year-old admits it was really difficult to come through our defensive redoubts.
Joel Matip paired Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defence and looked rock-solid. The 28-year-old was a force going forward as well. He opened the scoring with a bullet header to finally break Arsenal's defensive efforts.
All in all, Liverpool beat Arsenal at Anfield rather easily but the Cameroonian insists it was not just another day at the office for the hosts.
"We tried it over 90 minutes to come through. We had to be patient and the result was good, we won at home against Arsenal, that’s always good," Matip has concluded speaking to the club's website.
"They were standing with two deep rows and with their speed in the front it was really difficult to come through, because they were standing by their own box. But in the end it worked. We tried to push but it was not easy to come through. We did it not too bad but against a high-quality team like this it’s hard for every team."
