- The Chelsea winger is out of contract at the end of July and is unlikely to agree an extension.
- Arsenal have been linked with Willian for several months now.
- Now ESPN Brazil claim that the Gunners' top brass are optimistic a deal can be struck.
Chelsea are still hopeful of extending their winger's stay, however, Arsenal's management is optimistic that the Brazilian can be brought in this summer.
We suspect this might partially be down to the fact Edu and Raul Sanllehi enjoy a close relationship with Willian's agent Kia Joorabchian - although whether that in itself is such a good thing remains to be seen.
Nonetheless, Willian could provide something the current squad badly lacks: ability to advance the ball upfield when playing a possession game. The Brazilian's dribbling and passing skills are spot-on.
It could prove a smart piece of business, because the only money Arsenal would be paying are wages (unless Joorabchian will want a mammoth agent fee) and even re-sale value won't be much of a concern.
