Top sources: Gunners eyeing Vida move to send Chambers on loan
- Domagoj Vida is an Arsenal target
- Chambers could join the promoted Prem side on a season-loan deal to pave way for Croatia international move to Emirates
- Emery wants Calum to play regular football to continue professional progress
Standard's James Olley claims Arsenal are trying to land Croatia international Domagoj Vida. The Gunners need funds to secure that move and Chambers deal could open a possibility for that transfer. The 29-year-old Besiktas centre-half is valued at €12m by Transfermarkt, but the Turkish club are likely to demand much more than that, considering Croatia reached the World Cup final and Vida played a major part in their success.
According to ESPN sources, Arsenal and Fulham are holding negotiations over a loan move for Calum Chambers worth £1m. They believe the 23-years-old defender have lost a competition for a starting spot under Emery, but the boss sees his long-term future at Arsenal and wants Calum to get more playing time in the Premier League. Fulham move is considered as a perfect way to give the Gunner a necessary experience.
Fulham are the favourites to secure his signing but a host of Premier League clubs have also expressed their interest in Chambers, including the likes of Leicester City, Watford, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Unai Emery hinted after a 2-0 win over Lazio in a friendly tie he would trim the squad before transfer window shuts on August 9: "My focus is on the first match and preparing, and not for the window and the possibility to sign another player. Maybe we need some players to leave because we have lots in the squad, but at the moment, my one focus is on our work."
Chambers signed a long-term deal with Arsenal last month, securing his future at Emirates, but Arsenal's full stack of defenders could see a loan move as a perfect way to become more mature and experienced player.
Why would Emery switch Chambers for Vida? ?
