Transfer expert explains Sanllehi's role in signing Torriera and his impact on Arsenal's stance over Ramsey
- David Hall insists it was Sanllehi's efforts that helped Arsenal to secure Torreira's signing.
- The Arsenal chief established a wide net of contacts in South America when worked for Nike that had helped him in transfer business during his work at Barcelona and is still helpful.
- The transfer expert claims Sanllehi will need a few transfer windows to find and sign a few more top-class players.
The Gunners brought in the midfielder in July for a fee in a region of £25 million. The Uruguay international has already justified his price tag, becoming one of the best summer signings in the Premier League:
“[Arsenal have] got a new director of football, Raul Sanllehi, who came from Barcelona. He was seen from his time at Barcelona as the man who could get things done.
“He played a big big part in bringing Neymar to Barcelona and he has very very good contacts in South America. He used to work for Nike before Barcelona, and he’s got very good contacts through that. Hence the move for Lucas Torreira - that’s one of the reasons Arsenal spent big on him and pushed for him and made him such a key part of their transfer plan.”
David claims that Arsenal decision concerning Ramsey was largely dictated by Sanllehi's stance:
“He showed his ruthlessness as well, in shelving the Aaron Ramsey talks,” Hall continued. “He came in and thought: ‘Who’s this guy, who does he think he is, coming here and dictating how much he’s going to earn? If he’s not going to accept the terms that we’re going to give him then offer's off the table.’
“There’s no negotiation with him. He’s showing that ruthlessness that Arsenal will need to try and get these big players in. It’s going to take time, it’s going to take a few windows to sort them out.”
