Ex-Gunner Lukic: You can't blame Ozil for being paid so much
- The ex-goalkeeper says it's normal the player wants to get the most lucrative contract possible.
- John adds Mesut manipulated Arsenal contract situation really well to get what he desired.
- Lukic finds club's stance on Ramsey strange.
Ozil is the highest earner at Arsenal with the deal running until 2021. His wage is reportedly set at £350,000 a week, a magnificent figure for a player who mainly sit on the bench this season. The ex-goalkeeper says Mesut made use of the situation at the club and rightly so.
“He actually played the cards that he got dealt very well,” Lukic told Love Sport’s Weekend Breakfast. “Sanchez and him were both due out of contract and he sat tight while Sanchez decided he wanted to go to Manchester United which he did and which left Ozil in a fantastic position to say ‘pay me what I want or I’m off as well’.
Emery on Ozil: "He was ok to play but I decided not to play him. I spoke with him & told him I wanted him to be ready for this match & for the next games with the same spirit as all the players. I had confidence in him & he could have done what we wanted if he had played" #afc pic.twitter.com/p9GEB9LbEr— Gurjit (@GurjitAFC) January 21, 2019
“At that time, it seemed as though they couldn’t afford to lose both so he ended up with a nice contract.”
Lukic also expressed his thought on a cintract situation with Ramsey: “I find Ramsey going strange. Whether or not that is down to financial demands I don’t know but I do find it strange that they’re just letting him walk out the door.”
