Napoli enter competition for Arsenal-linked Benfica star Alejandro Grimaldo
- The 23-year-old is touted as one of the most talented fullbacks in Europe.
- Arsenal reportedly monitor him and consider a summer move.
- Napoli now also eyeing a move for the Spaniard.
- Grimaldo could cost up to €40m.
According to Calciomercato, Napoli have put Alex Grimaldo on their summer wish-list. Manchester United and Juventus for the highly-rated left-back. They see the Benfica fullback as a perfect alternative to Stefan Lainer in case they fail to agree on a move for Salzburg's defender.
The 23-year has made 29 appearances in the top Portuguese division, scoring for goals and bagging eight assists.
According to Italian source Tuttosport, Alex Grimaldo would cost no less than €40 million this summer for any potential suitor.
Arsenal are currently on the lookout for a new full-back as Nacho Monreal is likely leaving on a free transfer this summer. Grimaldo is regarded as an Emery-type player: fast, tireless and hard-working. Moreover, the Spaniard can play in a four-at-the-back and a three-at-the-back system.
However, €40 million could be too much for Arsenal as they are expected to have severely limited transfer funds this offseason. Spending a big part of their budget on just one player could prove to be disastrous.
