Unai Emery provides injury updates on Tierney, Bellerin & more
- The boss has held a press-conference ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road.
- Emery says Tierney and Bellerin are yet to recover and could probably feature for the U23 team.
- Holding could probably play next week for the first team.
- Pepe, Xhaka and Torreira are all available for selection.
On Tierney and Bellerin
“He and Bellerin are closer to us but need to continue working and taking training with us so they can feel very comfortable to play with us.
On whether there's a date set for their return
“Not yet. It depends on their progress in the next weeks. Maybe also we can decide for them to play in the U23s, maybe they can take confidence, better rhythm and after be ready to play with us 100%.
“We need to look at the next steps in each training and also if we decide to play with U23s. They did this week the first time training normally with us. We want the next week to take the normality training with us. After that week we can decide how they are to start playing with the U23s and with us.”
On Xhaka and Torreira
“They are ready.”
On Rob Holding
“He is the same situation as Hector and Kieran Tierney but he earned time and matches with the U23s. We are going to decide again if he can play with the U23s. Next week we will start the Europa League and Carabao Cup.
“With more minutes with the U23s he can be closer to give us his performance. He’s very close to playing with us. If he’s going to play with the U23s that match is important for him to feel good, comfortable and confident. It’s possible in the next week he’ll play with us.”
“At the moment we are working with three centre-backs, thinking on Sunday, now four. Rob is now five, Mavropanos the sixth to think about.
On Nicolas Pepe?
“He is training well and ready for Sunday.”
