David Ornstein: Arsenal concerned with William Saliba's groin strength
- Arsenal keep in touch with our loanee at Saint-Etienne.
- Our club are still very impressed with the player but are worried about the consequences of his groin injury.
- However, it's nothing too serious and nothing Arsenal staff can't help him with.
Respectable journalist David Ornstein told the Athletic that Arsenal didn't forget about our new signing William Saliba who went on loan right after signing a deal with us. The Gunners are always watching as he is an important part of our next season's plans:
"That's the plan. They're already working closely with him - he's visited London Colney a couple of times to recover from injury and train. They were impressed with his physical prowess when he arrived from St Etienne but concerned with specific areas, like his groin strength."
If you wonder why Arsenal are concerned with Saliba's groin strength, it's not because they question if the player has 'cojones' to be a Gunner. Unfortunately, this is about an injury.
At the end of last season, Saliba grabbed a nasty groin injury and even had to have surgery back in August. Obviously he hasn't fully recovered yet but it doesn't seem that the situation is too serious and that Arsenal are too concerned.
And check out this video of Saliba's first training session with Arsenal, before he headed back to Saint-Etienne. Does it look like his groin bothers him?
The club are confident that Arsenal staff can help him with this problem:
"He's young, inexperienced and not fully ready. The facilities and staff numbers are not nearly as advanced at St Etienne as they are at Arsenal, so the Gunners are in regular contact and keeping a close eye on him."
And the fact that Saliba has already made 3 appearances this season proves that there is nothing to worry about too much.
