Investigator exposes Curaçao Gaming Control Board misconduct; sends case to prosecutor's office, FBI
A now-deleted phone recording initially uploaded as a YouTube video allegedly revealing a conspiracy involving an online gambling operator has led to a wave of allegations and legal actions in Curaçao, reports Next.io.
Dr. Luigi Faneyte, a forensic financial investigator and opposition politician, recently filed a second complaint with Curaçao's Public Prosecutor's Office and several international regulatory bodies, including FBI, the Malta Gaming Authority, and New Jersey's Division of Gaming Enforcement. This follows an earlier complaint in November, which named the Ministry of Finance and other entities.
Among the evidence submitted is a transcript of a clandestine recording purportedly involving individuals linked to an online gambling operator discussing plans to shift the company's shareholding to evade legal accountability.
The complaint involves Curaçao's Gaming Control Board (GCB) and its managing director, Cedric Pietersz. However, the regulator has refuted any allegations of misconduct, stating that the voice in the recording does not belong to their advisor. Although the identities of those involved are still in question, one individual named in the complaint has denied any participation, and the regulator has supported this assertion.
Simultaneously, Curaçao's online gambling industry faces legal challenges from players, many of whom have filed claims through the Foundation for the Representation of Victims of Online Gaming (SBGOK). The foundation has successfully won bankruptcy rulings against operators like 1xBet and BC.Game.
The allegations emerge amid Curaçao's efforts to reform its gambling laws with the recently approved National Ordinance for Games of Chance (LOK).
