Sportradar reports 721 suspicious football matches in 2024, 18% drop from 2023
On January 9, global sports tech company Sportradar published its annual report titled Integrity in Action 2024 Global Analysis & Trends. The report indicates a significant decrease in the likelihood of match-fixing across various sports compared to previous years.
The company tracked over 850,000 matches spanning 70 sports last year, uncovering 1,108 suspicious matches—a reduction of 17% from 2023.
Europe recorded a 34% decrease in potentially fixed games, with 439 cases identified compared to 668 in the previous year. Similarly, Africa saw a significant drop, with 69 suspicious matches reported, marking a 36% decline from the last year.
There were 721 suspicious matches in football, reflecting an 18% decrease from 2023. Brazilian football, in particular, experienced a substantial 48% reduction, with 57 reported cases down from 110 the prior year.
"Nevertheless, despite the overall reduction in the number of suspicious matches detected, match-fixing remains a persistent issue worldwide,” the report states.
