Americans set to wager $1.39 billion on Super Bowl LIX - report
The American Gaming Association (AGA) has shared its predictions for the upcoming Super Bowl LIX. American punters are expected to place a record sum in wagers on the match between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs scheduled for Sunday, February 9, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
The AGA projects that the betting total on the 2025 edition of the event will reach $1.39 billion. The figure shows an increase compared to last year’s record of $1.25 billion reported by consulting firm Eilers & Krejcik.
"No single event unites sports fans like the Super Bowl, and that excitement extends to sports betting, with this year's record legal handle reflecting its widespread appeal," Bill Miller, the AGA's chief executive, told MarketWatch.
As AGA pointed out in the report, the forecast pertains solely to the legal sports gambling market in the US. Currently, betting is legalized in 39 states, along with Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico, and mobile sports betting is permitted in 31 states.
The offshore market is also present in the country, prominently featuring Bovada, a Curaçao-licensed online casino and sports betting operator. The platform continues to operate in the US, even though it faced blocks in over 15 US jurisdictions during October and November of last year.
