Everton sponsor Stake to end UK operations amid adult content ad probe
Due to a Gambling Commission investigation over the operator's social media promotion, Everton front-of-shirt sponsor Stake will leave the UK market next month.
The Gambling Commission announced today that TGP Europe Limited (TGP), which runs Stake under a white-label license in the UK, will shut down the website.
A video using Stake's logo that was extensively shared on social media has prompted the UKGC to open an inquiry. Adult actress Bonnie Blue was featured in the video outside of Nottingham Trent University.
Following a meeting with the Commission, TGP announced that it will immediately stop all new registrations for Stake's UK platform and eliminate any connections that reroute users to the main Stake website. By March 11th, TGP will have completely shut down the website.
Following a £316,250 fine imposed by the UKGC in April 2023 for anti-money laundering (AML) and social responsibility violations, TGP has already come under regulatory scrutiny in the UK.
As Stake is leaving the UK market, they will be unable to operate or promote their brand there, which includes sponsoring a Premier League team.
The announcement of Stake's departure from the UK comes after the company was fully authorized to conduct business in the recently regulated Brazilian market on February 11.
Stake is also moving into Europe, acquiring Baldo Line and its Idealbet.it brand in 2024 to enter Italy. Its acquisition of MocinoPlay is another way it is expanding into Denmark.
