Parimatch prevails in a trademark lawsuit in Turkey
In a ruling last week, the England and Wales High Court rejected important allegations made by Abudantia BV against Parimatch-affiliated companies over the dissolution of a joint venture that was involved in the Turkish grey market.
The decision puts an end to a multi-year legal battle between Parimatch and the B2B offshore gaming provider on the validity of a trademark agreement for an online gambling site and several claims of misconduct.
In the end, the court absolved Parimatch of any plot to damage the company and sided with it in terminating the trademark arrangement. The court denounced several of Parimatch's executive's activities even though it won the lawsuit.
Justice Dias stated: “There comes a point, however, when it is necessary to call a spade a spade. The entire strategy was designed to create the appearance that there had been a real infringement of Parimatch’s intellectual property when in fact there had been no such thing."
“In other words, Parimatch was laying a paper trail to be deployed in the event that awkward questions were asked about its involvement in the Turkish market, so that it could plausibly claim, falsely, that any dubious activity was entirely without its authority or knowledge."
