Shaun Wright-Phillips: 'I grew up following Arsenal'
Former England international and Man City legend Shaun Wright-Phillips says he supported Arsenal as a child.
"While my dad was at Palace, I looked into Palace, but I grew up following Arsenal," he told American Gambler.
"I wouldn’t say I supported them, but that was the team that I always looked at and always wanted to watch as I was growing up, so you could say I supported Arsenal."
Well, cheering on the Gunners is a no-brainer when your father is a cult hero among the Arsenal faithful.
It would be a rather dramatic scenario if the son of Ian Wright, one of the best players' in the club's history, played for the Gunners but Shaun spent his best years at Chelsea and Man City.
"I think that once my dad went there [to Arsenal], it is [turning out for the Gunners] something that would have been a nice story for that to happen, but I think everyone knows what football is like; you don’t really get that many options," Wright-Phillips replied when asked if he had dreamt of donning the Gunners shirt.
Interestingly, Ian Wright advised his son against joining Arsenal in the winter of 2005.
