They need a bit of faith: How supporting players in poor form can resurrect their true ability.
Between struggling goalkeepers, calamitous centre backs and failed front lines we have seen many. Before the time of the Egyptian King, Big Virgil, Sadio the Speedy and our Marauding Scot Liverpool football fans watched on as potential stars faded within their club.
Jon Flanagan despite serious promise fell away, Adam Morgan's incredible underage scoring stats earned recognition from Robbie Fowler, stating "as a finisher he is probably one of the best ive ever seen". So where does it go wrong for these players.
There is no doubt confidence is a the base of every sport. Karius is an ideal candidate to prove this thesis. After a superb season with Mainz, voted second best goalkeeper in the bundesliga behind only Neur, beating opposition such as Bernd Leno and Timo Horn. A rocky start to his Anfield life after a hand injury left him a bit out of the picture. It built suspense. Pressure to perform was mounting and he wasnt even playing.
Eventually he got between the sticks and all was going well, soon enough he would face a bleak part of his liverpool career. A couple of mistakes had him struggling to nail his position. The fans lost faith. This is the largest problem in modern football. The media, and local hype around players' ability leads to expectations that are too great a feat for young players. When they begin to underperform the fans lose faith and the club can sense it. They get taken out of match day line ups and moral hits rock bottom.
So, when a player hits poor form or doesn't quite live up to the bill of expectations what is the correct course of conduct? The answer is have a little faith, hang onto the hope, weather the storm for at the end there very well could be a golden sky. As was the case with a certain geordie we know who took a bit of stick early on at Anfield.

Very interesting and honest blog, to be a true Liverpool fan you need to have faith, but we are only human sometimes we lose the faith in players but only because we want our team to be the best in the world and to win every game they play.
First I admit that I enjoyed reading your article, Mullen. Second, I admit also that I am not a specialist in football, I am a normal interested fan who used to play football when he was young. As to answer your queries, based on long experience watching and follow up football, yes, 1) players do need continuous support whether they are in high or low performance. 2) some players need just sit and talk with his coach to bring him back from his off his stress. 3) in some other cases a player and or a group of players might need special counseling by specialist. I believe the worst of them all is number 3 because in such a case there many factors that contribute his bad performance must be investigated and treated. Tell you what I feel, LFC players need such counseling to get through the remaining 5 fixtures of this season. PS, Klopp himself should undergo such counseling. Good luck LFC.
