Hamstrings, Why do they Harm so Much?
What are hamstring muscles?
The set of muscles that connect the pelvis to the knee through the back of the thigh. They work by contracting and expanding to help the leg move.
Importance to footballers
These muscles help the player control the motion of the kicking action and movement of the leg when running.
Danger of hamstring injury.
The stress that the muscles feel can be instantaneous or gradual due to the nature of the sports where players run continuously, change direction and various other actions.
There are various types of hamstring injuries depending on the tear. The worse the tear the longer it takes to heal.
However, that is not the only worry for a player. When the muscle heals the normal muscles tissue is replaced with scar tissue. Scar tissue doesn't poses the same elastic nature of the muscle tissue and takes a long time to vanish.
In sports it is worse as a player cannot put any stress on the muscles or else he risk a tear again. This has caused many players to stop performing at their best for a long period of time or even cost them their careers.
