Amad Diallo – 8

The Ivorian youngster looks well-suited to the new wing-back role. Had an exhilarating start, setting up the opener perfectly. Worked hard on the right, getting the ball forward quickly and worked hard defensively with five clearances and five duels won.

Andre Onana – 8

Onana probably saved the Red Devils from losing their first game under Amorim. He made a couple of truly world-class saves, denying Liam Delap with incredible reflexes. He made five important saves in the game and moved the ball forward nicely too.

Marcus Rashford – 7

Rashford proved that he can sustain himself in the no.9 role with a great finish for the opening goal, getting ahead of the defender for the poke in. Didn’t really get much service after that, but made a few nice runs.

Noussair Mazraoui – 7

Mazraoui was unlucky that Hutchinson’s goal was off his deflection but was actually quite solid apart from that. He looked composed and proactive as a centre-back, making two tackles, six possession recoveries and winning 11 duels.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5

Garnacho lacked that final product when his side really needed him against Ipswich Town. He burst into a few great positions, but could not find the killer final pass or get his shots to go past the goalkeeper.

Jonny Evans – 4.5

Evans was troubled by the Hatters’ quickness in the attack and did not look comfortable as a third centre-back. He did make a few nice clearances, but was often outwitted and caught in bad positions.

Casemiro – 4

Casemiro didn’t really do much good to his chances of being a starter under Amorim. Looked a bit clueless in his role, not being able to protect his backline properly and being too eager with his forward passes. Couldn’t make a single tackle and was often left in the dust by the opposition players. Couldn’t close down Hutchinson quickly enough for his goal either.
