Mikel Arteta was not the first manager Arsenal approached after Unai Emery's sacking
Arsenal wanted Roberto Martinez as a manager following Emery's sacking. At least, his agent says Martinez was seen as the Gunners' ‘dream’ option to succeed him.
“Yes, he received a very concrete offer from Arsenal, but he refused it,” Jesse De Preter told DH.
Martinez has a contract with the Belgium national team until 2022.
