Andriy Lunin - Fading talent on the bench?
In 2018, Madrid paid out to Zorya Luhansk to sign an 18-year-old shot-stopper called Andriy Lunin. Well, now we see an insane goalkeeping talent wasting on the bench.
STINT AT LEGANES
He went on loan to Leganes first but however, that wasn’t successful with him only gaining 5 first-team opportunities. He served as backup to Ivan Cuellar. The next season we sought more minutes to our affiliate Real Valladolid but that was even worse as he played no minutes for the club.
Real recalled him and sent to Segunda División team struggling Real Oviedo and single-handedly kept them up with his saves. The most notable game for him was vs Ponferradina. He made 12 saves in a 0-0 draw. He has similar traits to the legend Iker Casillas. While being decent in sweeping and passing the ball, he is a beast shot-stopping. But what’s the problem now?
Second-Choice Now
Back at Madrid, he has gained a spot on the bench. With Thibaut Courtois playing the best football of his career there is no chance for even a look-in for the youngster. But don’t lose hope. We still have a cup run to go through.
And if that fails the January window will be open. Many La Liga clubs are struggling for a top goalkeeper like Cadiz, Levante, and Eibar. Even a loan back to Ukraine could be on the cards. Shakhtar and Dynamo Kyiv could be regular Champions League minutes which would be vital.
