Why we shouldn't by Timo Werner!
Timo Werner is a world class player. A guy who gets double numbers in both goals and passes 4 years in a row in a hard league is a world star. But is he the right man for Liverpool?
I have been brave and said a month ago that he doesn't necesarily fit our type of play while most people say he does, even pundits and managers say he does. But do he really?
We have his old trainer Ralf Ragnick who says Timo would fit a team like Liverpool as he is a counter attack specialist and that's how Liverpool play.
And we have seen Lothar Mattheus today saying similar things but my question is, do they know how Liverpool play nowdays. It seems they dont and I will give you some hard core stats to prove you all that.
A week ago Dietmar Hamann broke the pattern of everyone saying Timo fits us and said about exactly what i have said myself a month earlier. He said, Timo is a fast guy who is best in counter attacks where he gets to come up with full speed between the lines while he isn't that good if space and speed is taken from him.
Well this is what i have tried to say all season. Liverpool is not a counter attack team that plays the old Klopp heavy metal football anymore. The team has evolved and had to do so as many teams withdraw wery deep against us and nowdays we are a ball possession team.
I've been checking stats to confirm what i said could be right and got some here for you to read.
Big chances created 649.
Chances created 622
Chances created 781
Chances created 728
While Leipzig have 45% possession but still equals to Liverpools chances created.
What i wanna say about this is that Liverpool is no longer a counter attack team but a possession team as we got even more possession than shitty. Still with all that possession you can clearly see that we dont create many chanses compared to our opponents and especially Leipzig who even if they lead the league is on 10'th position in possession. If Werner comes his space is gone and therefore looking at theese stats i would have wanted a very creative player (like Bruno) instead of a runner.
Many has said on this app that if Timo is brought, Firmino can drop down and play in midfield. It would be a big change for only one new guy coming in. We would have to use 2 holding midfielders, we would have to use a playmaker, we would have to use a central topstriker, and Werner doesn't play as such eighter. No, i dont think the system would be changed that much for one player. IF Timo is bought we would play the same system but rotate more. Personally looking at all theese stats i would rather have a really good creator bought or a top top striker who wroks like Lewandowski or Suarez.
Am i wrong or right?
