Looking Into The Past - Who Are The Most Underated Players That Have Played For United?
Manchester United have had many sensational players to play in the United shirt over the years. But do some of them deserve more praise? I'm going to pick a XI that are all the most underated players in my opinion and make sure to give your opinions in the comments too!
GOALKEEPER - Sergio Romero :
To play in goal i have picked Romero. The Argentine currently still plays for United and is David De Gea's back up. Romero arrived at Old Trafford back in 2015 and has been in De Gea's shadow since he came. Romero has made over 50 appearances for the Red Devils so far and has over 30 clean sheets. He helped United win the Europa League back in 2017 and was Mourinho's No. 1 in the Europa League that season. If United decide to sell De Gea in the summer, (which is unlikely) i think Romero should be the United No. 1. He is fairly underated in my opinion. What do you think?
RIGHT BACK - Rafael da Silve or just Rafael :
To play right back i have picked Rafael. He currently plays for Lyon. The Brazilian joined United's academy at the age of 16. He made over 100 appearances for the Red Devils and scored many rockets for the club like the goal vs QPR. During the years he spent here he helped United win 3 Premier Leagues. He is for sure one of the most underated players to ever wear the United shirt and deserves more praise for the work he did in right back.
CENTRE BACK - John O'Shea :
For one of the centre back positions i have picked John O'Shea. The Irish legend is a Man UTD graduate and made nearly 300 appearances for the senior team. For the years he spent here he won 5 Premier Leagues, a FA Cup and a Champions League which was in 2008. My best memory of him was when he scored a chipped goal againt Arsenal back in the 04/05 season. He definitely deserves more praise for the work he did here.
CENTRE BACK - Jonny Evans :
For the other centre back position to partner O'Shea i have picked Jonny Evans. The Northern Ireland man currently plays for Leicester City and is a Man United graduate. He made over 100 appearances for the Red Devils. For the years he played here he helped United win 3 Premier Leagues. In my opinion he was a unbelievable defender for United and deserves more praise.
LEFT BACK - Denis Irwin :
For left back i picked Denis Irwin. When you think of legendary Man UTD defenders you think of Ferdinand, Vidic, Stam and all them legends and not many people think of Irwin. Irwin joined the Red Devils in 1990 from Oldham. The Irish man made 529 appearances for United and scored 33 goals. For the 12 years he spent here he won 7 Premier Leagues, 3 FA Cups and a Champions League which was in 1999. He deserves more praise for the things he's done for this club in my opinion.
MIDFIELD - Ander Herrera :
To play in one of the midfield positions i have pick Ander Herrera who unfortunately left United last summer. The Spaniard joined United back in 2014 when Van Gaal was in charge. He made over 150 appearances for the Red Devils. For the 5 years he spent here he helped United win the Europa League back in 2017 and a FA Cup in 2015. He mighn't have won many trophies here but was a work horse in midfield for the Red Devils in my opinion and deserves more praise.
MIDFIELD - Michael Carrick :
For the second midfield position i have picked Michael Carrick. The English man joined United from Spurs back in 2006 and went on to make 464 appearances for the Red Devils. For the 12 years of his playing career here he won 5 Premier Leagues, a FA Cup, a Champions League in 2008 and the Europa League in 2017. For sure he deserves more praise and is one of the most underated players to ever wear the United shirt.
MIDFIELD - Darren Fletcher :
For the last midfield position i have picked United graduate Darren Fletcher. The Scottish man joined the Red Devils senior team back in 2003. For the 12 years he played here he made over 300 appearances, won 5 Premier Leagues, a FA Cup and a Champions League. When Roy Keane left and Paul Scholes got injured Fletcher filled that spot and did a decent enough job and deserves more praise in my opinion.
RIGHT WING - Antonio Valencia :
To play right wing i have picked Antonio Valencia who could also play right back. The Ecuadorian joined United from Wigan back in 2009 and sadly left last summer. For the decade he spent here he played over 300 games for the Red Devils and was an absolute beast in nearly ever game he played and was a work horse. He helped United win 2 Premier Leagues, a FA Cup and the Europa League back in 2017. He scored many many many rockets for the club. He deserves a lot more prasise for what he's done. Fairly underated in my opinion.
STRIKER - Teddy Sheringham :
To play striker i have picked Teddy Sheringham. The English man joined United from Spurs back in 1997 and spent 4 years here until Rejoining Spurs again. For the 4 years he spent here he made over 150 appearances. He won 3 Premier Leagues, a FA Cup and a Champions League here. He is probably best known for the equiliser against Bayern back in 1999 when he came off the bench. He is fairly underated in my opinion. Whats your opinion on this one?
LEFT WING - Nani :
And finally i have picked Nani to play right wing. The Portuguese joined United from Sporting back in 2007. He went on to play over 200 games for the Red Devils and helped United win 4 Premier Leagues and a Champions League back which was back in 2008. He has scored some decent goals to be fair for United and is underated in my opinion.
And there ya have it :
Other players that i think deserve more praise but haven't made this team are Tim Howard, Phil Neville, Wes Brown, Park Ji - Sung, Nicky Butt, Louis Zaha, Steve Bruce and Mark Hughes.
Whats your opinion on the XI i picked? What changes would u make? Make sure to put your opinions in the comments. Thanks for reading!
Comments
Jonny Evans for me. He didn't just make over 100 apps, he was just 2 apps shy of 200. Fergie liked him and from the way he behaves himself I can only assume he's a top lad. I'd say Fellaini was underrated. Always gave his all for each manager he played for and scored a number of clutch goals. He was nowhere as bad as fans made him out to be and his touch was actually sublime. I'm just sure If he had had a different haircut, fans would've appreciated him more. By the way, would you mind if we had your post in the newsfeed, too? Full credit to you and we'd even draw the lineup using our branded template
Ya sure
I didn't see Chicharito on the list the mastermind of die minutes goal I feel like even in this line he is been underrated
