Explained: why there are no Premier League games this Saturday
The change is quite recent.
There are no Premier League matches scheduled for this Saturday because the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium is taking centre stage.
This change stems from an agreement made last year between the FA and the Premier League to ensure the FA Cup final has an exclusive Saturday slot.
The aim was to give the Wembley showpiece full attention, with no Premier League games on the same day or even the night before.
However, two Premier League fixtures were moved to Friday instead — Chelsea vs Manchester United and Aston Villa vs Tottenham — due to scheduling conflicts involving the Women's FA Cup final and the Europa League.
The rest of the Matchweek 37 fixtures are spread across Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
This rare adjustment in the football calendar highlights efforts to give major domestic finals the spotlight they deserve.
