Revealed: how much Real Madrid will have to pay to have Trent Alexander-Arnold released early
Should Liverpool take the deal?
Real Madrid have asked Liverpool to release Trent Alexander-Arnold early — and for free — so he can play in the group stage of the Club World Cup, which begins June 14 in the United States.
Although the defender's contract expires on June 30, Madrid want him available sooner but have yet to make any financial offer.
The Spanish club reportedly hoped Liverpool would agree out of goodwill, especially with Alexander-Arnold potentially waiving his final month's wages.
However, Liverpool still hold his registration and must approve any early departure, meaning the move can't happen without their consent.
Sources in Spain suggested Real were initially prepared to offer between £500,000 and £850,000, but so far have only submitted a request without payment.
As it stands, the earliest Alexander-Arnold could play is in the knockout stages from July 1, unless Liverpool allow him to join the squad in time for registration before that.
