WHO condemns current gambling regulation laws worldwide, calls for ban on sponsorships and promotions
In its report issued on Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) criticized global gambling regulations as ineffective and urged immediate action to reduce gambling-related harms.
The WHO called for a ban on gambling advertising, sponsorships, and promotions, describing them as essential for tackling the issue.
The organization also recommended stronger regulatory measures, such as mandatory loss limits, pre-commitment systems, and self-exclusion programs. With gambling disorders affecting 1.2% of the adult population worldwide, the WHO emphasized the industry's reliance on vulnerable users and stressed the need for more effective prevention measures.
Additionally, the WHO raised concerns about the gambling industry's influence on government policies and the need for better monitoring, especially in countries where gambling markets are rapidly growing.
