India’s IT ministry blocked 692 online betting and gambling platforms from 2022 to 2024, official says
From 2022 to 2024, India's IT ministry issued 692 blocking directions for online betting, gambling, and gaming apps, as reported by the country's minister of state for electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada.
Notably, this does not specify how many actual websites or applications were blocked as one order may list multiple apps or URLs that may need to be restricted.
In November 2023, India's IT ministry issued a blocking order against the online betting and gambling platform Mahadev Book Online, which is currently under investigation for money laundering in Chhattisgarh. The syndicate, led by Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, is accused of running illegal gambling operations and laundering money through complex networks that included hawala transactions and offshore accounts.
