Frank Lampard: 'We haven't got a Diego Costa scoring 30 goals a season'

2 months ago, Divij K

  • Frank Lampard says the club don't have the players to step into Costa or Hazard's shoes yet.
  • The boss added that the club is developing those players and he believes they'll get there soon.
  • Lampard has highlighted staying patient and calm as the key for the Blues.

“People were touting us as title challengers, [but] we have a squad that's young in composition - especially in forward areas. We don’t have the players in those areas that this club has had before, that are goal machines or assist machines that win you games,” Lampard told reporters ahead of the Leicester clash.

“We haven’t got Eden Hazard contributing 50 per cent of goals or assists. We haven’t got a [Diego] Costa scoring 30 goals. We are developing those players and I believe in them strongly.

“We are not quite there where other teams around us maybe are at the front end of the path.

“For us there could be tough times. So it’s important for me and the players to keep working but also stay patient and calm.”

Lampard has been unable to settle on a fixed line-up with no attacker currently stepping up to be the main man for the Blues.

Having a go-to source for goals is extremely important for success and the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner need to step into the shoes of Chelsea icons.

Being a pundit or criticizing is easy until u sit in the hot sit growing old on a daily basis. OLE missed out in the champions league to Europa, he is suddenly the favorite for the champion. Lampard was on 17 run of game undefeated including beating the almighty Sevilla 4 ~ 0 at their home, everyone keep saying we are the favorite. Let’s learn to be patience.
