'He was the best at it': James Maddison reveals Lampard's influence on improved goalscoring

2 months ago, Divij K

  • Leicester's James Maddison has said arriving late in the box from the No.8 position is the way to get more goals.
  • He has praised Frank Lampard as the best in that particular aspect.
  • Maddison scored Leicester's second goal in his side's 2-0 win.

“Me, the gaffer and Jack, the analyst, sat down and looked at where I can get more goals,” Maddison told Sky Sports after the Leicester game.

“Playing a bit deeper, as a No8 today, and things like breaking into the box, getting beyond that last line, almost smelling where the ball is going to drop.

“It’s not an easy thing to do and Frank Lampard was the best at it, at arriving late and scoring goals, and that’s what I did today.

“That’s something I’ll keep improving on because everyone wants numbers, I want numbers, I want goals and assists, I want everyone talking about me. It’s part of my game that I’m looking to improve on and I’m getting good returns at the moment.”

James Maddison scored Leicester's second and decisive goal as the Foxes cruised to a 2-0 victory against Chelsea.

If only Frank Lampard could inspire Kai Havertz the way he's influencing Maddison, both him and Chelsea would be better off at this moment.

I’m very sorry for Frank Lampard I think he has lost the dressing room. I think this players are no more committed to him, but my question is what has he done wrong?

Absolutely nothing. Frank was a one year experienced Manager coming from a lower league Derby county. And this is is the first time in his career his working with a group of players at their youth peak. So he’s showing now the best he can and yet fans are complaining. When we lost Hazard and had a bam. No Manager was willing to take the job, Frank step up even as an inexperienced coach so why are we complaining? Where we expecting him to win the league?
