AS Roma offer some cognitive dissonance for Chelsea
The Champions League for Chelsea is only becoming crazier - even without them in the competition
It now turns out that when Chelsea conceded the first place in their Champions League group to AS Roma, it wasn't for nothing, but the Blues may regret their exit to Barcelona.
AS Roma did something great, magnificent, beautiful, something that showed the world football is alive as they razed Barca to the ground at the Stadio Olimpico. Relentless pressing coupled with a roaring crowd, ablaze for an entire 90 minutes and even more, contributed to Barca having made not a single coherent attack.
•So what it really proves is Chelsea gave Barca too much respect. For an entire week before the second leg, Antonio Conte & the players talked about the importance of the game, how they would play etc. The AS Roma case just proves that the less pressure you invoke, the better.
Their fans and players did the talking on the pitch effectively locking Barca in where Chelsea opted for a much more cautious approach against a team so clearly on the wane.
