Unexpected comparison for Jorginho from Paul Merson
- Sky Sports pundit hopes Jorginho won't repeat Premier League career of Liverpool's flop Alberto Aquilani
“I think Jorginho is a proper player,” Merson said on Sky Sports. “You just hope he doesn’t end up like an Aquilani.
“When he came over to Liverpool, he had all those figures, he was the best passer in Italy.
“They don’t play the way we play. In Italy you get the ball off the goalie, you get your head up and you start spraying it left, right and centre. When Aquilani came over, he’d get the ball and somebody (would take it) and he’d be like ‘where’s the ball gone?’. So all them things will take time.
19 - More players have scored on their Premier League debut while playing for Chelsea than for any other club in the competition, with Jorginho the 19th to do so. Mixture. pic.twitter.com/OgdyISdUbk— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) August 11, 2018
“But he will become a proper player when he gets used to the game. I can understand what he’s saying, I think this is going to take time.”
