Times: Kepa wasn't no.1 option to replace Courtois
- The Blues were snubbed by £89million target Jan Oblak before signing Kepa Arrizabalaga
The Times claim Chelsea executives met the release clause of Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak but the Slovenia international decided to stay in the Spanish capital.
The 25-year-old keeper replaced Courtois at Vicente Calderon in 2014 and since then has been named in La Liga's team of the year twice.
The report adds that Atleti chiefs are considering an improved deal for Oblak in reward for his loyalty.
Kepa has already featured Premier League clash against Huddersfield yesterday which ended with a first clean sheet in Chelsea shirt for the Spaniard (0-3).
