Ex-Blue insists Chelsea will challenge Liverpool and City this season
- Frank Sinclair believes the appointment of Maurizio Sarri has made Chelsea one of the contenders for Premier League title alongside Liverpool and Man City
- He also states that keeping Willian and Hazard at Stamford Bridge is far more important than any summer signings
“I think Chelsea have (gone under the radar), 100 per cent,” Sinclair told Express Sport. “I think the poor defence of the title last season has meant most presume Chelsea won’t be in the running this time around.
“You look at the signings Liverpool have made, and the obvious form City will have, but Chelsea have just slipped under the radar. People don’t know what they’re going to get from Sarri but I saw what Napoli did under him last season and the pressure they put Juventus under with a lot lower budget.
“I’m quietly confident Chelsea will make a challenge this season. Obviously, it’s going to take time to get used to the new system. We’ve played with three at the back for the last couple of seasons but now back to a back four and I think it suits us. The emergence of David Luiz is like signing a new £50m centre-half.

“And keeping Hazard and Willian could be more important than any signings Chelsea made this summer.”
Sinclair had added 169 caps and 7 goals to his record during his time at Chelsea (1990–1998). He also helped the Blues to win FA Cup and League Cup.
