SportMediaset: Lampard to replace Sarri as Chelsea manager
- The Blues' icon is currently in charge of Derby County who can get promoted to the PL through the play-off.
- Our club's board have long been considering that idea.
- If reports are true, Sarri will be sacked after the Europa League final, whatever the result will be.
According to reports from Italy, Chelsea look to replace Maurizio Sarri with Frank Lampard.
SportMediaset claims that the idea has been developing among members of the club's board for some time and now they are closer than ever to finally make a move.
Despite decent results, Sarri has never been fully accepted by the Blues' fans and players. Besides, his ability to adapt to the Premier League from a tactical point of view was also put under question.
As for Lampard, he has led Derby County to the Championship play-off, and is judged to be ready to manage a big club. Of course, he will get support from the fan base who, without doubt, remember the years Lampard spent with Chelsea as a player.
The former No.8 made 648 appearances for the Blues and is still the club's leading scorer with 211 goals. He's been touted as a future Chelsea manager even in the days of his playing career, and his successful stint at Derby only strengthened the belief.
Earlier today, Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Maurizio Sarri will be sacked after the Europa League final, regardless of the result. It would likely mean the Italian's return to the Serie A where AS Roma and AC Milan are ready to give him the job immediately.
