Chelsea loanee Nathan: If it's God's will that I stay in Brazil, I stay
- The 23-year-old is having a first productive spell for Atletico Mineiro.
- However, his loan deal expires in a month.
- The clubs are yet to talk about renewing the agreement.
Chelsea loanee Nathan expressed his desire to stay put at the club he is currently playing for, Atletico Mineiro.
It is quite a turnaround given that he barely played for the Brazilian side in the previous season.
But now he has finally started getting time on the pitch, having featured in 3 out of 4 games for the club and scored 1 goal.
The only downside to his situation is that the loan deal is coming to an end, and he would have to return to Chelsea without any realistic prospect of playing for the club that bought him in 2015 for €4mln.
That is why Nathan hopes Atletico will be able to arrange a new deal.
“They have yet to talk about renewing the deal. My contract ends next month, and it has a buy-option. But on that front, I am still calm.
“I will stay focused on Atlético until the last moment. If it is God’s will [for me to stay], I will stay. I would like to stay, too.
“As it was the case with the previous manager, in the attacking midfield position, [Juan] Cazares was already the starter. I made myself available to play in other positions, which is how things were when I played in Europe. I am very happy with the opportunities I have been getting. In one game I play as a central midfielder, then as an attacking midfielder and after that, as a winger.
“Adapting to Brazil was a bit hard. But I am working hard, day by day.”
