Barkley the only Blue named for England's preliminary Nations League squad
- The Three Lions will take on the Netherlands in the semifinal on 6 June.
- The list includes 27 players and will be shortened to 23 names before the game.
- Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi have both been ruled out with injuries.
Ross Barkley became the only Chelsea player to be included in England's preliminary squad for the Nations League finals that will take place in Portugal on 6 and 9 June.
The 25-year-old midfielder might not have enjoyed the final part of the season which saw him losing a place in the starting eleven not only to his usual competitor Mateo Kovacic, but also to Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
However, Gareth Southgate clearly trusts the player who started in both of previous England's games.
Moreover, Barkley also netted a brace in the fixture at Montenegro which ended with a 5-1 victory to the Three Lions.
There’s a clear agenda to make Chelsea purely dominated by English players with an English captain.— Bubbles (@EliasAnyebe) 15 May 2019
Barkley has had a thousand bad performances but Jorginho gets picked on the most
However, two other Blues who could have joined Ross in the squad were noticeable by their absence.
Callum Hudson-Odoi was never expected to play in those games as he is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, on the contrary, would have been included in the team if he did not pick up the same injury in yesterday's game at New England Revolution. He could be sidelined up to half a year
It makes Barkley the only Chelsea player in the Three Lions' squad that will face the Netherlands in the Nations League semifinal on 6 June.
