Gus Poyet urges Lampard to 'jump at the chance' to take charge of Chelsea
- Frank Lampard is the frontrunner to replace Sarri.
- Critics argue that he may not be ready for the job.
- But Poyet thinks he is a good fit.
Former Blues midfielder Gus Poyet thinks Frank Lampard should accept Chelsea's offer to become their manager at the next opportunity.
Rumours suggest that such a chance is within reach as the current Derby County manager is the frontrunner for the job that will become vacant as soon as Maurizio Sarri leaves for Juventus.
"I think it’s a beautiful job and, if he has the chance, Frank has to jump at it," Poyet said on talkSPORT.
"It’s a rare opportunity and it’s a good option. He knows the club, he knows the politics inside the club and he knows you need to have a different way of playing."
Lampard who left Chelsea in 2014 is closer than ever to the comeback to Stamford Bridge. Sky Sports understand that Chelsea will officially approach him as soon as Maurizio Sarri's exit to Juventus will be sealed in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Telegraph claims that Chelsea may be forced to offer Lampard the job earlier than they have planned. The club hierarchy's intention has been to let the club legend coach one year more in the Championship and make a definitive decision.
However, as other candidates become unavailable, the former midfielder may be the most realistic choice.
