Valencia sack manager Marcelino 6 days before Chelsea clash
- The 54-year-old left the club after 2 years in charge.
- The director of football is also expected to be fired in the coming days.
- Ex-Real Madrid and Barcelona star Celades is the most likely replacement as a manager.
Valencia have sacked their manager Marcelino Garcia Toral after two years he has been in charge. The news comes just six days before the La Liga side will visit Stamford Bridge for the Champions League opener.
"Valencia told Marcelino Garcia Toral on Wednesday that he is no longer first team coach," a club statement said.
"The club would like to thank him for his work and dedication during his time at our entity and wish him success for the future."
Another rumour that will add to the turmoil is that the club's director of football, Mateu Alemany, can also be sacked in the coming days.
It is reported that former Spain U21 manager and Real Madrid assistant coach Albert Celades is the most likely replacement for the outgoing boss and will already be in place for the Champions League game.
Chelsea will play host to Valencia on 17 September. Before that, the Spanish outfit will also take on Barcelona in the league game.
