England boss Southgate hopes to avoid 'privileged access for certain players' at England
- Three Lions' boss doesn't want to have privileged players in his squad.
- The likes of Lingard were dropped, while Tammy is expected to be handed England debut.
- Lingard only has one assist since last December.
- Tammy, meanwhile, scored eight goals in 10 appearances for the Blues.
Jesse Lingard has been omitted from the latest England squad, while Tammy returns to the England senior squad following two years gap since his debut. This time around though, the 22-year-old is expected to be handed his first competitive debut.
England boss Gareth Southgate, meanwhile, explains why he decided to snub certain players: "If I bring those guys back in, who am I going to leave out? Does it mean leaving out somebody who is scoring freely and playing exceptionally well just because they’re younger? Everyone within the squad would look and say: 'OK, there’s privileged access for certain players'."
Tammy scored eight goals in 10 appearances for the Blues. He is currently averaging one Premier League goal every 70 minutes. Only Man City star Sergio Aguero has a better goals tally and goals-per-minute ratio this season.
Southgate’s Three Lions squad will play Euro 2020 qualifiers away at the Czech Republic next Friday and against Bulgaria on the following Monday.
