Lampard sets Mateo Kovacic a new challenge at Chelsea
- Kovacic plays an important role in our midfield.
- He's adept at dribbling and setting his partners up for a goal.
- He, however, hasn't found the back of the net since 2017.
- Frank Lampard, a prolific goal-scorer himself urges Croatian to finally break his goal-scoring duck.
As complete midfielder as he is, Mateo hasn't scored since late January in 2017 when was still a Real Madrid player. Funnily, the Croatian has now not scored for two clubs and his national team.
Coincidentally or not but Frankie Lampard is Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer on 211 goals and he wants the 25-year-old to finally start scoring for the Blues.
"The quality he has shown in big parts this season, and I think the natural progression is goals and we are working on that one," said Lampard talking to reporters at Cobham.
"You might see a big smile if he scores, not just from me but from the group because we know he has the quality to score and that will be the next step.
It does look like scoring goals will be the next logical step for Mateo Kovacic, who's getting better game after game.
After the games against Burnley and Watford, Croatian midfielder got his incredible skill-set on display once again, registering 8 successful dribbles vs Ajax.
