Marc Cucurella is Jordi Alba's heir
While Jose Arnaiz may have hit the headlines as Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde gave youth its chance in the Copa del Rey clash against Murcia on Tuesday, defender Marc Cucurella is another player to look out for. At the age of 19, 'Cucu', as he is commonly known, made his official debut for the first team in the 3-0 win.
The talented left-back was signed by the Blaugrana five years ago from Espanyol, along with Carles Perez and Carles Torrens, to join the Cadete B team.While a natural defender, the youngster has developed his attacking skills in the youth ranks, and he has become a regular starter for the Spanish youth teams.
Already labelled as the player who will occupy Barcelona's left-flank position in the future, according to his La Masia coaches "he is very hardworking and he will be a great footballer."
Having followed his achievements at Barcelona B, several European clubs, including Manchester City, Roma, Dortmund and Manchester United, have expressed their interest in the player. The Catalan board, however, managed to tie the young prodigy down to a new contract last summer, putting faith in his talent and potential.
