Why did Barcelona defence collapse against Sevilla?
Even though the Catalans have conceded just twice in the Champions League, there is plenty of work to be done.
Ernesto Valverde has managed to switch his Barcelona side to a 4-4-2 formation which has made the team more resolute defensively. However, there have already been several matches when the Catalans' defence turned out to be too fragile. Sevilla's draw is exactly the case.
The misunderstanding between Paulinho and Samuel Umtiti led to Sevilla's first goal as the pair failed to stop or cover Franco Vazquez quickly enough. Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto were slow to come into play after the break.
The Catalans were obviously lacking Sergio Busquets in the midfield while Ivan Rakitic was unexpectedly not at his best and couldn't replace the midfield maestro properly.
Let's the stats do the talking: Barcelona allowed 21 shots from Sevilla, no other LaLiga team have managed to produce so many shots against the Catalans so far this season. Moreover, six of those shots were on target.
