Argentina appoints Lionel Scaloni as interim coach
- Argentina Football Association have announced that Lionel Scaloni will take charge of the national team for the September friendlies
- Scaloni is a part of Sampaoli's backroom staff
The Argentinian Football Association confirmed the 40-year-old's appointment on Thursday, releasing a short statement.

Scaloni is set to stay in charge at least until the end of 2018, according to the AFA president, Claudio Tapia:
"The three international matches we are going to play between now and the end of the year will be led by Scaloni and Aimar," he told Ole.
The previous Argentina boss, Jorge Smapaoli, has quit his job in July after an unsuccessful World Cup campaign. Argentina national team managed to qualify for the knockout stage from the second place in the group D, after a draw against Iceland, lost to Croatia and win over Nigeria, but were knocked out by France in the round of last 16.
