Digne reveals circumstances of his Barca exit: 'Valverde didn't want me to leave'
- Lucas Digne has joined Everton after two years with Barcelona for 20.2 million euros, plus 1.5 million euros in variables
- According to the full-back, it was his own wish, as Ernesto Valverde wanted him to stay at the Camp Nou
“I asked Barcelona to leave,” Lucas Digne explained to Liverpool Echo. “The coach didn't want that, Valverde didn't want me to leave but I said: 'Coach, I need to play more and Everton is the perfect project for me'. After he agreed I said thank you.”The defender has opened up about his time at Barcelona and relationship with Jordi Alba:“Of course it difficult but you know when you are at Barcelona, every player doesn't play every game. It's a different situation but the most difficult thing is to be fit, fit for when you need to play. You need to be ready, train every day hard and to be ready for when you play.“We (Digne and Alba) have a very good relationship. He sent me a message when I left the club saying 'Good luck', 'All the best' and 'You are my brother' and we have a very good feeling together.”Digne also revealed how the chat with Everton coach Marco Siva convinced him to join the Toffies:“When we spoke with me I felt he was a very good person and he has a mentality I love in a coach, he wants to play with the ball and I like that. He wanted me, the club proved they had a lot of interest and for me it is a very good project.”
