Barca target N'Zonzi wants to leave, Sevilla chief confirms
- Joaquin Caparros: 'Eventually he can go away but he has a two-year contract with us'
- The midfielder has long been Blaugrana's 'plan B' should Rabiot move fail
- The Frenchman's release clause is just €35m
Sevilla's director of football Joaquin Caparros confirms their 29-year-old midfielder Steven N'Zonzi has asked the club to let him leave. The 2018 World Cup winner with France has long been linked with several top clubs, including Barcelona and Roma; however, he was expected to return to his son who is currently in London.
Caparros opened up on their star player's future in an interview with Cadena SER as quoted by Goal: "N'Zonzi wants to leave, but he is aware that he has a two-year contract with us. I talked to him, I have a good relationship with the player, even during the World Cup we have been in contact. Eventually, he can go away, but it is also true that we have told him that he has two years of contract."
It was reported previously in the Spanish press that N'Zonzi is a 'plan B' for the Blaugrana in case PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot's transfer falls through. Right now Paris Saint-Germain have no intention of letting the 23-year-old leave even though his contract expires next year. N'Zonzi, meanwhile, could leave if his potential buyer activates the release clause stated in his Sevilla contract. Caparros confirmed there is an option to sign the midfielder: "He has a clause. If in the end someone will come to ask for the player, that someone knows that there is a clause, or they will have to make an offer that is very close to it. N'Zonzi knows what we want from him."
Previously Caparros has even named an exact figure of this release clause - £35m. Blaugrana fans, meanwhile, are not that amused with this potential move. Barcelona Live user Olubuogu Victor Obinna, for example, believes noone is able to pair up with veteran Sergio Busquets.
Who should Barca sign - Rabiot or N'Zonzi? Or neither of them?
