Rival Watch: both Madrid giants avoid dropping points this time
- Atletico and Real Madrid beat Getafe and Espanyol respectively
- Barcelona have a chance to reclaim the first spot in La Liga on Sunday
Despite Atletico Madrid's bumpy start of La Liga campaign many still consider them one of the main threats to Barcelona's domestic ambitions. Diego Simeone's side are gradually finding their form as they have beaten Getafe 0-2 thanks to Thomas Lemar's efforts.
Atleti's neighbours Real Madrid managed a marginal win over Espanyol 1-0 with Marco Asensio scoring the only goal of the game. Los Blancos were very close to conceding a goal in the second half as the Catalans' forward Borja Iglesias hit the woodwork. Julen Lopetegui's charges got lucky and collected three points at the end.
Thus, the Whites are currently ahead of Barcelona who face Girona on Sunday.
The Madrid derby will be played on September 29 and Barca fans would be happy in any case because at least one of the teams will lose points after the game at Santiago Bernabeu.
