Former Blaugrana Eto'o: Messi will always be the best player in the world
- Eto'o: We have to choose three best players but it doesn't change the fact that Messi is the best
- The Cameroon-born striker spent five years at Barca
Former Barcelona great Samuel Eto'o attended the FIFA gala on Monday night and lamented Leo Messi's snub for the most prestigious The Best award. The Argentine wasn't even included in the top three candidates and eventually, it would be Luka Modric who would win this accolade.
Eto'o, meanwhile, believes the individual awards don't matter much as Messi is and will always be the best player in the world.
Goal quote him as saying: 'Leo, for us, will always be the best player in the world ever. The human beings have to choose and they chose those three players, who have done well this year too. But for people like me and others, it doesn't change the fact that Leo is the best player in the world ever.'
In total, the Eto'o played 195 official games wearing a Blaugrana jersey in all competitions, having scored 128 goals with 108 of them coming in LaLiga. Between 2004 and 2009 at Barcelona, the Cameroon international won three La Liga titles, two much-desired Champions League trophies, as well as two Spanish Supercups and one Copa del Rey. For this moment, he is plying his trade in Qatar.
