It will difficult to lure out Puig from Barca: he has a €100m release clause
- The starlet provided his debut assist on his first-ever game for Barca seniors against Cultural Leonesa
- He is likened to Xavi and Iniesta
- Even though Spurs were reportedly interested in the 19-year-old, he extended his deal until 2021 this summer
Riqui Puig made his first-team debut for Barcelona in a competitive fixture on Wednesday night as he entered the pitch in the 54th minute against third-tier side Cultural Leonesa. Moreover, a couple of minutes afterwards he provided his first-ever assist on Denis Suarez's second and Blaugrana's fourth goal of the night.
Puig is already likened to several Blaugrana legends, including the renowned midfield maestros, Xavi and Andres Iniesta. He caught an eye of the opponents during Barca's friendly matches in the annual International Champions Cup tournament which was held in the United States this summer.
There were rumours that Puig was scouted by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino a couple of weeks ago. In any case, it would be difficult for any other side to snatch the 19-year-old. On June 11 this year, he signed a new professional contract with Barcelona which would see the youngster tied down to the club until 2021.
Moreover, Puig has a whopping release clause included in his improved deal which is reported to be up to 100 million euros - an incredible sum for a starlet. Curiously, only one academy player has a bigger clause, Oriol Busquets. It would take 200 million euros to buy out his contract. Busquets, by the way, was the one who gave way to Puig against Leonesa.
