Messi wins yet another award for being exceptional last season
- He receives the Premio Aldo Rovira award which was created in the 2009/2010
- The Argentine has snatched this accolade six times now
- Messi scored 34 La Liga goals and scooped the domestic double last season
Leo Messi received the 'Premio Aldo Rovira' award on Thursday afternoon, before the recovery training session after the Cultural Leonesa match. The journalists' votes decide on the winner of this prize which Messi has already claimed six times: 2009/10, 2010/11, 2012/13, 2014/15, 2016/17 and 2017/18.
Curiously, this award was only created during the 2009/2010 season. Only three players, other than Messi, have ever won it; these are Eric Abidal (2011/2012), Javier Mascherano (2013/2014) and Luis Suarez (2015/2016). It was created by former Barcelona director, Josep Lluis Rovira, in honour of his son Aldo who tragically died in a motorcycle accident in March 2009.
Messi had an incredible 2017/2018 season as he snatched both La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies and scored more league goals than any other player across the European top five leagues - 34. In total, he scored ten more goals across the Champions League and Copa del Rey competitions and provided a total number of 18 assists.
