Who is Jean-Clair Todibo, Barca's newest signing?
Barca have completed their second winter transfer looking into the future.
Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Toulouse defender Jean-Clair Todibo on a free transfer. The 19-year-old centre-back's contract with the Ligue 1 side expires in June and he will join the Catalans in summer 2019.
Todibo was born in Cayenne, French Guyana, on 30 December 1999. He made his senior debut only at the beginning of the current season after spending two years in Toulouse academy. So far, he has played 10 matches in Ligue 1 managing one goal and one assist. His market value has quadrupled from 2 million euros in September 2018 to 8 million euros in December 2018, according to Transfermarkt.
This now official. Will join in summer, when Toulouse deal expires. Not the ideal situation atm as he’s been frozen out at the French club due to contract dispute.— Samuel Marsden (@samuelmarsden) January 8, 2019
Barcelona's official website describes Todibo as 'a tall, right-footed defender who can play at centre back and also in the centre of the midfield'. It is also reported that the Frenchman's 'idols' are Andrea Pirlo and Thiago Silva which could tell a lot about his playing style. Transfermarkt profile insists that the 19-year-old feels more comfortable at the centre of the backline:
Despite certain doubts, it seems likely that Todibo will join the first team right away. "Currently, at Toulouse, he wears the number 33. That will change with Barça, as top-flight jersey numbers in Spain range from 1 to 25," Barca's official website suggests.
